Treatment of ingrown nail, proud flesh

Ingrown nail is a painful, sensitive, sometimes purulent condition. The toe is swollen, sometimes proud flesh appears. Generally it affects the big toe.

Inherited shape of the nail, poor cutting, or tight fitting shoes may be among the causes.

Nowadays the ingrown toenail can be treated easily. The most efficient solution of this disorder is the laser surgery.

It is a minor surgery, generally carried out under local anaesthesia. The nail edge (1-2 mm strip), the ingrown tissues or the eventual proud flesh are removed, cauterized with laser.

Healing time is about 2 weeks, but in most of the cases operated patients can forget this condition for the rest of the life.
